Resolor contains the active substance prucalopride.

Pharmacotherapeutic group: Drugs with effect on serotonin receptors

Resolor belongs to a group of medicines, which stimulate the intestine activity (Prokinetic Agent). It acts on the muscle wall of the intestine and helps to restore the normal function of the intestine. Resolor is used to treat chronic constipation in women who do not take enough laxatives.

Not for use in  children and adolescents under the age of 18, as Resolor has been poorly studied in these patient populations

What do you need to consider before use?

Resolor must not be taken

if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to prucalopride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
if you receive kidney dialysis;
if you suffer from bowel wall perforation or obstruction, severe inflammation of the intestinal tract such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon / megarectomy.
Warnings and Precautions

Please talk to your doctor before taking Resolor.

Take special care with Resolor

if you have severe kidney disease;
if you have severe liver disease;
If you are currently cared for by your doctor because of a serious medical condition, such as lung or heart disease, cancer or AIDS.
If you have very severe diarrhea, the effectiveness of contraceptive pills may be reduced and it is recommended that you use additional contraceptive methods. Refer to the package insert for the contraceptive pill You are taking.

Taking Resolor with other medicines

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Taking Resolor with food and drink

Resolor can be taken with or without food and fluids at any time during the day.

Do not take Resolor if you are pregnant or want to become pregnant unless advised by your doctor.

When breastfeeding, prucalopride can pass into breast milk. Do not use Resolor while breastfeeding unless advised by your doctor.

Ask your doctor for advice before taking any medicine.

Driving and using machines

It is unlikely that Resolor will affect your ability to drive or use machines. However, Resolor may sometimes cause dizziness and tiredness, especially on the first day of treatment, which may affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Resolor contains lactose monohydrate.

Therefore, you should only take this medicine after consulting your doctor, if you are aware that you have an intolerance to certain sugars. How is it used?

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. You must take Resolor every day as prescribed by your doctor.

Your doctor may be assessing your condition and the benefits of ongoing treatment after the first 4 weeks and then periodically.

The usual dose of Resolor is 2 mg once daily for most patients.

If you are older than 65 years or have severe liver disease, the starting dose is 1 mg tablet once a day. If necessary, your doctor may increase this dose to 2 mg once daily.

If you have severe kidney disease, your doctor may also recommend a lower dose of 1 mg tablet daily.

Taking a higher dose than recommended does not make the medicine work better.

Resolor is for adult women only, and must not be taken by children and adolescents under the age of 18 years.

If you take more Resolor than you should

It is important to follow the dose your doctor has prescribed for you. If you take more Resolor than you should, you may experience diarrhea, headache and / or nausea. If you have diarrhea, you should drink enough water.

If you forget to take Resolor

Do not take in twice the amount if you forget to take the previous dose.

If you stop taking Resolor

If you stop taking Resolor, your constipation symptoms may return.

What are possible side effects?

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The side effects are predominantly at the beginning of treatment and usually disappear within a few days if you continue treatment.
