Avodart (chemical name: Dutasteride) is a medication which is used to cure prostate enlargements. Avodart is produced and marketed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Avodart also can be prescribed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a kind of prostat disease mostly seen in men AVODART 0,5 MG 30 CAPSUL is the member of 5 alpha reductase inhibitors medicaiton group. 

The development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) involves a substance called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Testosterone converts to DHT in patients with BPH. Avodart works by preventing this conversion of testosterone to DHT. The active ingredient, dutasteride, is also used to help improve the flow of urine, which can reduce the need for surgery of the prostate in later life. Avodart is also prescribed in some cases associated with tamsulosin (brand name: Flomax) to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate and assist urine flow.

Avodart side effects:
As with all medicines, there may be side effects from taking Avodart including a decrease in libido, decreased amount of sperm in ejaculation, impotence / erectile dysfunction, breast enlargement and breast tenderness and headaches, constipation, diarrhea, and changes in body temperature. More serious side effects can include severe headache, fever, fatigue, dizziness and swelling of the lips, mouth and face from an allergic reaction. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Avodart Directions:
You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Avodart for you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Avodart is in capsule form. You should swallow Avodart whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or open the capsules, as they are specifically designed to release the drug at a specific rate. Opening the capsule may cause the drug being released into the body too quickly, which may have adverse effects. It can take up to 6 months before the medication starts working. Avodart should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.

Avodart Precautions:
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Avodart, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Avodart, including antifungal medications, antibiotics, conivaptan, heart or blood pressure medications, HIV / AIDS medications, antidepressants, isoniazid and imatinib. Women and children should not take Avodart, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not handle Avodart as it can be absorbed through the skin and may cause birth defects in unborn babies. If you are pregnant and come in contact with Avodart, wash the area with soap and water immediately to reduce the risk of injury to the child.
